There is a Difference

The Beginning Of Beaverdam Pet Food

When Beaverdam Pet food was started we considered quite a few different companies to make our products. With some good advice from an long time friend in the business, we picked the one that we felt had the reputation we wanted to

  • make a pet food that we could put the Beaverdam name on the bag,
  • know that we had the best that could be made regardless of the cost, and
  • not be concerned about trying to make a product and stay within a budget for the manufacturing cost. Several companies told me the cost of our ingredients would make the selling price too high. My comment was, “You make the product and let me price it”.

My desire was not to see if we could have a low cost product and compete with outlets but to have a product that no one else had, or, at least, not too many companies offered. When I was told the cost of the pretty bags for a 20 lb. bag of pet food, with all the different colors, would cost more than the ingredients that went in the bag, my first reaction was “something is wrong with this picture”.

We put our money in the bag, not on it.

I was explaining the plans of coming out with a pretty bag in the future with a customer and she remarked, “We don’t feed the bags to our pets. I just want to know what’s in the bag”. So the slogan began –We Put Our Money in the Bag, Not On It !
